CPV Calculator — FAQ

What is CPV in marketing?

CPV (Cost Per View) is the amount you pay each time a viewer watches your video ad. Formula: CPV = Total Ad Spend ÷ Total Views. YouTube charges CPV when a viewer watches 30 seconds or the full ad (whichever comes first). TikTok and Facebook charge CPV when a user watches at least 2–3 seconds.

How do you calculate CPV?

CPV = Total Ad Spend ÷ Total Views. Example: $300 spend, 10,000 views → CPV = $300 ÷ 10,000 = $0.03 per view. YouTube TrueView CPV typically ranges from $0.03 to $0.10.

What is a good CPV on YouTube?

A good YouTube TrueView CPV is $0.03–$0.06. Industry average is $0.05–$0.10. If your CPV is above $0.12, review targeting and creative — overly broad audiences or unskippable placements inflate cost.

What is the difference between CPV and CPM?

CPM charges per 1,000 impressions (each time the ad appears). CPV charges per view (when someone watches a minimum amount of your video). A video campaign can have both metrics — the ad might appear 100,000 times (CPM) but only be watched 30,000 times (CPV). CPV is a better metric for measuring actual video engagement.

What counts as a "view" in video advertising?

It varies by platform. YouTube TrueView: 30 seconds watched, or full ad if shorter. Facebook/Instagram: 3 seconds. TikTok: 2 seconds. LinkedIn: 2 seconds with 50% of video visible. Twitter: 2 seconds with 50% in view. Always check platform definitions before comparing CPV across networks.
