CPC Calculator — FAQ
What is CPC in marketing?
CPC (Cost Per Click) is the amount you pay each time someone clicks on your ad. Formula: CPC = Total Ad Spend ÷ Total Clicks. If you spent $500 and got 250 clicks, your CPC is $2.00. It's the primary bidding model for search advertising and one of two main models (alongside CPM) for social media.
What is a good CPC?
A good CPC depends entirely on your industry and the value of a conversion. Google Search averages $2.50–$4.50 CPC; Facebook averages $0.80–$1.50. What makes a CPC "good" is whether it's below your maximum allowable CPC — calculated as: Max CPC = (Conversion Value × Conversion Rate). If a customer is worth $500 and you convert 2% of clicks, your max CPC is $10.
What is the difference between CPC and CPM?
CPC (Cost Per Click) charges you only when someone clicks your ad. CPM (Cost Per Mille) charges per 1,000 impressions regardless of clicks. Use CPC for direct response campaigns where traffic is the goal. Use CPM for brand awareness where reach is the goal. Most platforms let you choose between both.
How do I calculate maximum CPC?
Maximum CPC = (Average Order Value × Gross Margin × Conversion Rate). Example: $200 AOV × 60% margin × 3% CVR = $3.60 max CPC. At this CPC, each click breaks even. Set your target CPC 20–30% below max CPC to allow for a profit margin.
How do I lower my CPC?
The main levers: (1) Improve Quality Score on Google — better ad relevance and landing page experience lowers your CPC for the same position. (2) Use long-tail keywords — less competition means lower bids. (3) Negative keywords — exclude irrelevant searches that drive up costs. (4) Improve CTR — higher CTR improves Quality Score and lowers CPC.
